Just had today a very quick test of the ultra Di2 drivetrain. Went to the local bike shop to buy a pair of pedals for my old bike and they had inside a test bike equipped with the new Di2. Fast things go fast, I found myself riding the bike.. static.
I’m a full Campagnolo rider, so this was my first contact to a modern Shimano drivetrain. First impression was that everything was very light; second was that the thumb knob was missing.. you know what I mean. The ‘knob’ to change to smaller cogs is a tiny one and not placed where I’m used. I think the electronic gear shifting will be the future anyway. All the major companies come up with their systems. Shimano and Campagnolo already have one. Looking forward for a long test drive. Vive la revolution!
I had the impression of ‘somebody else is doing the job’
I liked how the front disk was engaged
Had the feeling of something very light
Expected less noise
The chain lost the small cog once and wedged between cog and chain stay
Didn’t like the tiny knob for low gears, but is not an issue
I think this system will be a great relief to long distance races.
